Artist Bio

Art is expression, evocation, emotion. Art speaks, cries or demands, it makes you feel, think or laugh. My work is inspired by dreams, life experiences, and current events, as well as by my life-long romance with history, symbolism and mythology. The subject matter is usually human as we relate to the emotional signals of other humans.  My aim is that the subjects in my work reach out to the viewer, initiating an emotional or intellectual response to the piece in a silent dialogue. 

Oil on panel is my favored 2D medium, I find the organic and traditional method of layers of pigment suspended in thickened medium resonates with me more than any other method of painting.  I also create wall hung and freestanding 3D pieces in ceramic that are figurative and narrative in nature.  Instead of traditional glazes, I prefer the earthiness of the black clay I use to take priority, tinting with oil colors after firing.

In keeping with a fascination with symbolism, I created 54 original oil paintings that became the Roman Tarot Deck, an ancient Roman themed deck, and wrote the companion book, The Roman Tarot: A Contemplative Guide to the Symbolism and Reading of the Roman Tarot available on Amazon.  In addition, I just finished an Alt-timeline Sci-Fi novel called Walking the Mosaic, also available on Amazon; the first in a series.
