Timothy Flanagan
Artist Bio
In all of my creative endeavors, from cradle to cane, there have been two notable aspects that describe my work. Those interconnected features are story and presence. As a young puppeteer my world was all about creating interacting characters and performing their stories in front of others. As an adult actor I threw myself into the study of human behavior within complex narratives on stage and off. As an elder visual artist I explore story through portraiture, urban landscape, nature and sometimes animal studies. The story in each piece is always the same: the internal presence of a life force struggling to make sense of the form it is taking. Within all of my work is a conscious presence looking out, as curious about the outside observer as the observer is about the artistic form they are looking at. There are a lot of eyes in my work, whether you can see them or not. Vision and form, story and presence; that is the focus of my ever-changing work.
