Kent Klaudt
Artist Bio
I am a photography-based artist living in San Francisco, CA, working in film and digital formats. My photographic interests are landscapes, cityscapes, flora, urban street, and street portrait. I am inspired by (and try to reveal) the sublime, unusual, or surreal that I see in the world.
My current work blends analog and digital techniques. I shoot 35mm color negative film which I then soak in lemon juice, salt, and red wine to create chemical changes in the emulsion layers. This causes unpredictable and sometimes dramatic changes in the negative. After I develop the negatives, I scan them on a light table, edit and create the digital prints. I also make some digital photographs while I hold various glass and acrylic prisms in front of the camera lens.
It’s an exploration in surrendering a bit of control over the creative process to chance or randomness and exploring processes that are partially non-digital. I hope some of these images will resonate with you on an emotional, intellectual, or molecular level.
